1) Questions and Answers : Windows : SUPERSEDED -- Windows Patch for version 3.00 (Message 809)
Posted 18 Jun 2008 by Profile Cori
I tried it and it didn\'t work for me! I replaced the files and restarted BOINC but nothing...it just says running but nothing is happening. the CPU is staying at nothing and when i say...show graphics it says ACT-R Loading at the top right hand corner and Processing... in the bottom left hand corner

Yes, same for me here...

Win XP x64, T7700@2.4GHz, 4 GB RAM with BOINC vers 5.10.45

EDIT: Oops, I made a hasty judgment! Now it works and the WU is at 10 minutes and 13.161% - jippieh! :-)))

Thank god you missed the first WUs which were 40MB each! ;-)))
Now they\'re 20MB but will be reduced to (I think) 6MB soon.

The initial app files are around 17MBytes. [These are hosted on mirror sites which has REALLY made a big impact]

After all the files are there:
WUs should only require a small amount of data transfer <100KB or so

If you have observed differently, please let me know what files are downloading and there sizes and I will try to remedy it.

--Jack

Oops, sorry my fault! Thanks for correcting me, I was mixing up the files sizes with AIS (Artificial Intelligence Systems). ;-)))

Btw: I didn\'t expect to see you around here today. I\'m really sorry to hear about the loss of a family member. :-(

Thank you - I appreciate that,
I am in TX now - My Father in-law and wife are taking a walk with my toddler

I couldn\'t resist checking up on things real quick.

The WU has uploaded, thanks a lot for the quick fix! ;-)

And PLZ take good care!

Hi all

Just joined. Busy downloading right now - hoping that the large files are the application files and not WUs!

Rod

Hello Rod, welcome to MM@H!

Btw, it\'s the WUs. *grin*

http://mindmodeling.org/beta/workunit.php?wuid=98066

is this normal that 1 host get 2 times the same wu?

For now it seems to be normal.
We\'ve been discussing that within this thread also. ;)

I expect it will remain this way until the admin returns next week.

Guess you\'re right. But my WU will be overdue tomorrow. *sniff*
Should I abort it or wait? ;-)

I\'d let it wait. overdue? it\'s beta. What\'s it gonna hurt to let it cook on your host for a few days.

Ok, it will do no harm, only try to upload every 3 hours. *grin*

p.s.: WinXP is Windows NT 5.1 - so it is a bit more modern (well, if modern equals slow) but still Neandertal ;-)

*LOL* But I like my XP much better than NT. ;-)

Ok, I tested the sbcl version 1.09 and it didn\'t run. :-(

I made a little screenshot from the error pop-up (similar to the one I got yesterday):

Bummer - we rely on sbcl completely to run our Lisp code.

Thanks a lot for testing that out. Now we know why MM@Home can\'t run on NT.
It looks like SHGetFolderPathW is not present.
Is the service pack on that NT box less than 4?
--Jack

No, I think it has the latest Servie Pack 6 installed. No newer available. :-(

Btw: you maybe should state somewhere on the frontpage under \"system requirements\" that Win NT isn\'t supported... ;-)
I read somewhere that NT means \"Neandertal Technology\" so there won\'t be too much boxes affected, I guess. *grin*

They can keep it. :-P
Btw: when I first saw the name in my task manager I feared it was malware, because I usually don\'t like watchdogs on my puters. *LOL*

Maybe I should call it mm_watchdog.exe
--Jack

That is a good idea. Thanks! :-)

Watchdog consumes no CPU time.

watchdog will ensure that a process does not continue if the parent process ends.

Usage: watchdog ParentPID PotentialOrphanedPID

Funny that especially this process survives a crashed result *g

Parent process ID must be the ACTR...exe, sbcl.exe the one to watch for.

watchdog comes from rosetta ;)

Hehe... and it also was resistant to resetting the project. Had to delete it manually from the project\'s folder. ;-)
