1) Message boards : Number crunching : Can't log in using IE11 (Message 3385)
Posted 2 Mar 2015 by DGG
I also can not use Internet Explorer 11 to login to the web site. All login attempts just clear the blanks and put me back at the same login prompt.

In my case I had to use Chrome to finally get logged in and change my settings.

Someone from the MM staff needs to find out why the current IE11 windows browser can't log in to your project only. I use IE11 on 27 other projects without a problem. I used IE11 fine with this project before. I left for a few months and when I came back, couldn't log in. I've done the cache and page resets and that isn't it.

Also when MM sends a password reset instructions it gives the link to go to which just takes you to the same malfunctioning login and never resets password or anything.

I am able to use BOINC Manager to attach MM just fine although there doesn't seem to be any workunits available to actually test if the connection is actually good.

Thanks Tom for the quick answer.

I've noticed these high priority modes more often with the BOINC Manager 7.X than when I used the older 6.X (which worked well). Anything with less than about 30 hours seems to set it off in high priority mode. Even when there is one hour to go on the work unit and 24 hours left on the deadline. Folks doing one or two projects don't seem to get this as often. Something in BOINC Managers scheduling. Frankly if it weren't for so many of the projects that do GPU WUs requiring 7.X, I would have stayed at 6.X which scheduled much better.

I easily managed 20 or more projects with 6.X but many projects now require 7.X. So I switched a few months ago. BM 7.X just loves to download far too much work and then to run all WUs with short deadlines in high priority mode (Mind Modeling). It totaly ignores the work limits set on a regular basis. The more projects you run, the worse BM 7.X gets. So I realize that a lot of this isn't so much your workunits as BM 7.X. Having a deadline over 30 hours or so helps 7.X cope.

Then add the frustrations with the very flawed Credit New system and it makes those same quick finishing work units nearly worthless credit rewards. Credit New is being replaced by flat rate calculations at most projects that tried it because it simply doesn't work well. It isn't fair and rewards very wacky amounts both too high and low. It was designed to make all projects reward on a par with SETI which is a very flawed mismanaged project now. Hope you reconsider a different credit system in the near future (like flat rewards for an amount of work completed). MM is not rewarding very well currently as compared to other projects for the time spent on WUs and that's probably due to the Credit New system. There are many projects that have abandoned or refuse to use Credit New.

Here's hoping you find a way to make the screen saver/graphics work. It was a nice way to show off the project. I realize we all want working WUs as the 1st priority. But if you could fix this sometime when you're not running in high priority mode, it would be appreciated by many.

Thanks to Tom and Jack and those at MM we don't see on the forum behind the scenes for the hard work you do.

While the new workunits seem to run OK, the 24 hour deadline still means they all run in high priority all the time even though there is plenty of time to finish them. This continuous high priority mode (due to the short deadline) stops other projects from running.

Also the graphics/screensaver now no longer functions. One of the things many of us liked about this project was it's graphics. Has this projects admins decided to do away with the graphics/screen saver? It was working a couple of weeks ago.

I rebenchmark my computer daily and it hasn't made any difference in the past.

However all three of my PCs are showing project communication with MM has been down since 8-30-2012 and no new work units have arrived to test.

I did forget to mention I use Windows 7 64-bit on all my PCs and BOINC manager 7.0.28 X64 as well on all.

So if it's doing it on Gary's BOINC 6.12.34 (windows only, not MAC or Linux) then it seems to be not tied to any BOINC Manager version but is Windows 1.80 app related? Since I only use 64-bit Windows 7, I'm not sure if it also applies to a Windows 32-bit PCs as well. I tend to setup all my PCs with the same OS and BOINC version so don't have a good variety to test this on.

I also noted some of my completed 1.80 work units are showing incredible CPU times to complete like: 127,749,000,000,000,006,603,335,186,805,721,964,824,143,539,716,629,124,013,672,625,273,365,028,324,555,030,636,388,065,343,490,910,895,583,224,881,639,883,338,116,803,935,174,819,647,603,275,086,197,142,041,950,813,697,127,692,048,918,856,142,455,117,083,653,405,975,997,770,341,747,128,625,128,545,963,600,256,842,115,570,133,217,837,056.00 seconds.

The real time is around 1,500 seconds (25-30 minutes)per WU. So I guess my PCs are immortal to have done such great amounts of CPU processing (grin). They do seem to get reasonable credit amounts though granted for the real time taken.

Just to clarify:

It's MM WUs that are actively running that does this. It's every single running MM work unit that starts. I don't see any problem with workunits that keep going after finishing and the majority of them do finish properly. They all seem to be 1.80 versions which seems to have solved the workunits that stuck and never finished.

At least once every second for every running MM work unit a line is produced in the event log as shown in the earlier post. This continues while the WUs are running and any time the BOINC Manager tries to do something like checking to start a MM WU. Suspending MM and not allowing new tasks does mostly stop the issue until resumed again (except for the occassional times BOINC Manager tries to do something with the MM WUs). So I don't think it's bad unfinished units running in the background.

The MM WUs do seem to finish OK and are credited. I've increased the event log size allowed but so many of these negative CPU messages occur that the event log is erasing oldest entries of info that would have been kept weeks before. So using the filters does help except for the oldest messages being deleted. I run Work Units on about 30 projects daily so this log is pretty busy on my computers anyway. Lots of extra lines makes it a much shorter time span it covers. It's not a huge deal just annoying.

I only log onto this forum every few days so forgive me if I don't respond quickly to posts. Tom, I'll wait for the fix when you can get to it. Just felt it should be known this is not tied to the unfinished workunits at least on my PCs.

Thanks........

All my PCs seem to be processing MM WUs OK but the MM WUs are eating up my message log space on my BOINC PCs with hundreds of Event Log lines every hour (examples below).

Please fix this logging message or at least turn it off.
Only MindModeling is causing this. No other projects are generating these messages. This started for me with the new type of work units (1.80 I think).

Thanks

Same for me...the one WU I got ran for 16 hours and never went past 0% completed. I finally aborted it. I was able to complete some a day ago so lets hope this error problem is a just a short-lived fluke.

Well it was working for a while...

I had to detach everything I run and redo my BOINC Manager a few days ago. When I try to reattach to Mind Modeling, it says it does but shows no score or team info as if it never really did attach. Could a MM person please check on this so I can reattach and be ready for any new batches of WUs that arrive.

Thanks

Great to see new WUs but all the latest ones I've got have errored out. I notice everyone who has got these same WUs after/before me have errored out too. The batch before this one (several days ago) did complete successfully.

Also I'm guessing that MM isn't reporting to BOINCSTATS. They still show the totals from roughly a year ago for MM without showing any of the results of the WUs completed in the last couple of batches.

Thanks...
12) Message boards : Number crunching : Is MM weeks months or years away from starting back up full time? (Message 1504)
Posted 25 Jun 2010 by DGG
Just curious if Mind Modeling is ever really going to be back to operating on a full time basis? It's been well over a year since I've got any work units and it seems the response is always "coming soon" and months later still not there other than a few test work units.

Is it going to be weeks, months, or years before MM actually has workunits on a regular basis? Is this project really ever going to be back?

It's working fine for me now since you did that.

It's good to see the project is back again but I haven't been able to reattach to this project. I have an account.

When I attach, it all seems to go OK but never finishes the project initialization. It shows up in my Project List without any user or team info or score.

When I go into the messages I see it looks like a normal project initialization until the last line which says "Message from server: Server can't find key file."

No attempt at getting work units is made again.

I've detatched and reattached as well as resetting the project but nothing changes.

So is this project dead? Haven't seen any work for a long time and the last message I saw here said possible new work. But that time has long past so didn't pan out? Is this project going to have anything within the next few weeks or should we just dettach?
