1) Message boards : News : Project Update (Message 4287)
Posted 22 Nov 2019 by UBT - Timbo
Hi

Thanks for the heads up.

I sincerely hope you keep the forum "alive" simply because it is a "one stop shop" to find out the status of the project and if any issues are occuring that affect members downloading/uploading tasks.

Of course, if more tasks were available, then you'd get more interaction on the forums, esp if things stop working :-(

Of course spam can be a problem...but if you don't have the time/resources to monitor the forum, then just make it read only (and admin read/write) and just provide members with the feedback they require to successfully volunteer their computing hardware to the project.

Otherwise, with no central resource, if anything goes wrong then there's no easy way to find out when/if the project will work correctly and what needs to be done to fix things.

Tim
2) Message boards : Number crunching : Merge accounts (Message 4219)

Hi Brandon,

thank you for your answer!
It helps a little bit. Maybe you can clarify this:
I understand that by now it is not possible to merge account.
On the other hand, it should be possible to close an account (and use the other one instead). However, I wasn't able to find this option (close/delete account). Is this something only an admin can do?

Best,
Michael

Hi Michael

Theres no need to delete an account - just remove the project from whichever PC(s) you are using (that are set up with the wrong account) and just add the project again, using the correct email address and password for the "correct" account that you want to use.

The unused account can then remain dormant and if BOINC and it's admins think of a way to join two accounts then it can be done later on.

3) Message boards : Number crunching : Wrong home page address (Message 4218)

Hi Hal,

There's a file downloaded for each project when you join it. This contains the addresses that the browser will go to when the buttons are clicked.

The one for MindModelling is "/var/lib/boinc-client/account_mindmodelling.org.xml"

In the file, each link has a
, a
and a
You need to edit the
entry to include the '/'

As Woodles said:

You need to edit TWO XML files (which are in the BOINC folder on Windows and file name = "account_mindmodeling.org.xml" and "sched_reply_mindmodeling.org.xml") and then restart BOINC Manager. The changes are as follows:

<gui_url>

Correspond with other users on the MindModeling@Beta message boards

</gui_url>

<gui_url>

View your account information

</gui_url>

<gui_url>

View the last week or so of computational work

</gui_url>

<ifteam>
<gui_url>

View information about your team: xxxx

</gui_url>

DON'T COPY the above as the xxxx's represent your own personal data - just see where the BOLD / are above - there are 4 of them !!

Hi Brandon,

I assume the master file that is downloaded by Boinc from the project has the '/' missing.

Correct - but if the MASTER file isn't tweaked by the project admins, it should be edited as above, as even doing a project reset might just result in the erroneous file being re-downloaded (if it hasn't been fixed by now).

4) Message boards : Number crunching : Executable keeps running (Message 4060)

Hi

In fact I now believe the report given here:

https://mindmodeling.org/forum_thread.php?id=1029

is more relevant as the 6 tasks I have do not seem to be using ANY resources, with CPU use at 0% and Progress of each task being 99%+.

I restarted BOINC Manager (v7.8.2) and all of the 6 tasks restarted at 0% (no elapsed time and with 51 mins estimated time to completion).

I will monitor and see if they complete this time around, having already wasted multiple hours of CPU time. :-(

Tim

Hi

I have a similar issue:

Windows XP, with tasks still running after many hours and showing 99.999% complete.

It's the same ACR*R cognitive type task too.
