The goals of this project are to understand the underlying processes of the mind. This is done through studying cognitive models developed based on the latest theories of the mind comparative analysis of there results to empirical experimentation. No models currently in the system focus on cognitive therapies.
Cognitive science is much lower level work.
The models of the mind we are looking at could be analogous to the "assembly code" where cognitive therapies would not really be software at all.
We are looking at the low level processes. From this research we hope to build cognitively plausible systems.
This is closer to Artificial Intelligence than Cognitive therapies. These AI system could be anything as that you normally would think a person would be better than a Computer.
- commercial: like a system that does analysis for usability: a model would be as slow or as fast a human and make similar decisions therefore you could test many virtual configuration and see the result on different human models (sleepy person, young person, old person, etc)
- academic: like a training aids for team based training. You could potential practice doing a team based task without needing a whole team.
- system safety: making a system aware of the cognitive state of the user by comparing their response times to internal cognitive models run within the system; this could manifest itself as a system that figures out a driver may falling asleep and react accordingly or determining a user has been overloaded and slows down inputs

In short Cognitive Systems represent a new generation of computing applications that would effect many aspects of life.
