This research involves an Optimality Theory model for natural language generation, implemented in the ACT-R cognitive architecture. The model uses simple, conflicting Optimality Theory constraints to capture the patterns of human language production, as evidenced by experiment transcripts from a team task reliant on communication. The ACT-R model implementation provides a general computational cognitive account of Optimality Theory, and captures the dynamic and probabilistic nature of human language production.
