1) Message boards : Cafe : Is my computer worth the project? (Message 3901)

There are a lot of people here with single PC's or weak ones and still do crunching. I would argue that this is one of the lighter projects for CPU (usually) and a lot of people here are crunching on one machine. Those people can quickly add up to make a huge difference, so I would go for it!

Are the screensaver/graphics no longer available?

Posted 28 Aug 2016 by AEM74
MM doesn't interfere with my GPU tasks, only with my CPU ones and even then, it won't give me any because I have other projects that have wu's. I have to suspend one project in order to get any tasks.

5) Message boards : Number crunching : The Deadline is too short !!! (Message 3886)

Just for our information:
What is the normal deadline period?

I just joined this project, and all the WUs I get are only on a few hours (5) from the time of download. As has been pointed out several places in the Forums here, this does not play well when working with multiple BOINC based projects. I cannot believe that all the WUs are "at the beginning of a modelling run" or need such a short turnaround time. None of the other projects I am familiar with are using such short times.

If these short times are the standard policy of mind modelling, then I will have to stop allowing this project to send new jobs (unless I am feeling masochistic.)

I've seen 5 days and I've seen a few hours for wu's. I would say both happen quite often, but if you have a strong CPU, the few hour wu's can be crunched faster than the 5 day one's. For me on a 4790k, the few hour wu's take anywhere from 5-15 minutes each.

AEM74,

You should see your credit received for the work you are doing returned to normal now.

Thanks for your support and happy crunching,
Nathan Neitman

Thanks, they seem much better now!

Hi,

As the title states, I've been noticing less credits for the last few WU's even though they seem to take longer to crunch. I noticed this when the last WU's that had the several hour deadline as opposed to a few days.

Thank you for your help.

Mindmodeling has always had a short deadline, regardless on the number of jobs. Some jobs, including some current ones, give you a few days but have a higher crunch time. I think the shorter ones where they only give you 2-3 hours is a bug however.

I made a similar thread a while back. It usually doesn't affect the validity of the WU but reset the project. Works for me all the time and I get the same error after certain jobs get posted.

Bump. Happened on a bunch of my WU again.

I can confirm that this does happen to me also, and some of the processes tend to stick around even after I exit BOINC, only terminating and clearing from RAM after a few minutes.

This has happened a few times in the past, but this one caught my attention again: https://mindmodeling.org/workunit.php?wuid=21744741

Seems too little when looking at CPU time.

Thanks.

No problem. I should note that those wu's all turned out to be valid as opposed to last time. I estimate this happened to only around 10 of them.

Seems like it's working again. Happens every time new wu's get released.

I'm getting the same message again. I'll try resetting project again and seeing what happens.

Hi,

It seems the latest wu's from a couple of days ago went without error but I'll still reset it.

Thanks.
