AbstractThis study reports one eye-tracking and one sentence completion study investigating the antecedent biases of Turkish-speaking L2 speakers of English, for anaphor it and deixis this. Our results show L2 speakers displayed native-like sensitivity to the type of antecedents while using it and this in sentence completion, but this sensitivity was not replicated in our online reading experiment. This shows limitations in L2 speakers’ use of information in online reading, and poor performance in making use of pragmatic changes in context to track the antecedents of it and this.
